About Me
I qualified as a midwife in February 2000, and worked in a large
consultant-led hospital, then as a community midwife in Nottingham. In May
2006 I left the NHS to join a practice with other independent midwives (IMs)
in Nottingham. In April 2007 I set up my own independent practice, still
working closely with other IMs in the area.

I enjoy reading the latest research and subscribe to several journals and
e-groups to keep me up-to-date. I also attend many training days each year.
Some courses I have taken over the last year include:
Perineal repair update (suturing)
Paramana Doula Course (with Michel Odent)
Active Birth Course (with Janet Balaskas)
Midwifery Emergencies (including neonatal and maternal resuscitation)
I also do occasional teaching sessions at the University of Nottingham,
specialising in the history of midwifery.

I am married to Simon who works as a charity fundraiser, and who is also a
musician and runs a youth football team. I have had four children of my own.
These are Tom (aged 20); Penny (who died aged 9 days old from a very rare
infant cancer); Leo (aged 11); Jack (aged 7). I have a very supportive husband and family who provide the bedrock
which enables me to run my busy independent practice, including running off
in the middle of the night to catch babies! (Once Simon even brought me a
cup of tea in the morning, wondering why I hadn't got up ... it wasn't until
some time later that he realised the lump under the bedclothes was just a
lump and not me ... I had been out all night!!)
We have a loving if somewhat chaotic home and a rather overgrown allotment.
Life is busy, colourful and fun!
