Service - What I Offer
Most people have the full package of care which includes all antenatal care,
attendance at the birth, and all postnatal care. Even if you have an
independent midwife you are still entitled to all screening tests - blood
tests and scans - via the NHS. I can arrange these for you.
I carry out antenatal visits in the comfort of your own home, at a time
convenient to us both. I usually prefer to work during week days, but am
happy to provide some sessions either at weekends or evenings (often this
can be helpful when doing the birth preparation so that a partner can be
involved).

Darren, Cameron & Helen
If you have a home birth, I can provide all the midwifery care for you at
home. If you need to transfer to hospital for any reason, I can accompany
you in a supportive role. My position in the hospital is that I am not an
employee of the hospital, and am not allowed to give midwifery care.
However, I would be able to give care in an emergency. (Please see the
section about insurance.)
If you wish to have a hospital birth, again, I can accompany you but in a
limited role. I can give you support, and be there for you right the way
through, including guardianship of the precious first hour after birth to
ensure that you have skin-to-skin contact with baby. I have excellent
relations with the local hospitals having trained in Nottingham. We are
lucky in Nottingham to have a very enlightened consultant midwife who is
supportive of independent midwives.
For postnatal care, I offer home visits as frequently as necessary, often
every day at first, and carry out all necessary tests, weighing of baby and
so on. I am available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so that if parents have
any concerns, whether about mother or baby, they know that help is available
to them. I am experienced at supporting breastfeeding.
Although most people have the complete package, I will offer just antenatal
or postnatal care, but I can't offer just birth - I do need to build a
relationship with my clients.

I also offer one-off sessions for preconception and fertility advice;
antenatal or postnatal care; breastfeeding help; debriefing after previous
traumatic experience; preparation for birth.
